A field operation officer of the Metropolitan Manila Development Authority was shot dead in front of his home by three unidentified men Sunday night, Jan. 15, in Barangka, Marikina City.
Barangka police commander Chief Insp. Norberto Liwag identified the fatality as Cesar Bacani, 54, of 31 Fernando Street.
Bacani, who was driving a motorcycle, and his wife had just arrived from church when the suspects on another motorcycle blocked and fired at him.
As soon as the victim fell from the motorcycle, one of the suspects approached and pumped more bullets to apparently ensure his death before fleeing.
Bacani’s wife, who had just entered the house minutes before the killing, was alarmed by the gunfire prompting her to check. She was shocked to find her husband bloodied on the pavement.
Police have yet to determine the motive behind the killing and identify the suspects.
MMDA assistant general manager for operations Emerson Carlos said Bacani was a field operation officer of the MMDA-Sidewalk Clearing operations Group.
